Google dejará de vender el Nexus One

Google comunicó que recibió el último lote de su teléfono inteligente Nexus One y que dejar de vender e l aparato cuando se agoten los dispositivos.

“Una vez que vendamos estos dispositivos, el Nexus One no estará disponible en línea en Google ”, comunicó la empresa en su página web.

Google cerrara su tienda en línea en los próximos días y asegura que mantendrá el soporte para los actuales usuario del aparato.

Nexus One continuará vendiéndose a través de los empresas de telecomunicaciones como Vodafone en Europa , KT en Korea, y posiblemente con otros operadores dependiendo de las condiciones del mercado.

Entonces para que tanta publicidad y bombos y platillos por parte de Google en entrar a este mercado? Qué opinan al respecto?

Smartphones to Overtake Feature Phones in U.S. by 2011

The iPhone, Blackberry, Droid and smartphones in general dominate the buzz in the mobile market, but only 21% of American wireless subscribers are using a smartphone as of the fourth quarter 2009 compared to 19% in Q3 2009 and 14% at the end of 2008. We are just at the beginning of a new wireless era where smartphones will become the standard device consumers will use to connect to friends, the internet and the world at large. The share of smartphones as a proportion of overall device sales has increased to 29% for phone purchasers in the last six months and 45% of respondents to a Nielsen survey indicated that their next device will be a smartphone. If we combine these intentional data points with falling prices and increasing capabilities of these devices along with a explosion of applications for devices, we are seeing the beginning of a groundswell. This increase will be so rapid, that by the end of 2011, Nielsen expects more smartphones in the U.S. market than feature phones.

Skype for Windows Mobile discontinued

Google services would stop working in old browsers.

In March YouTube, owned by Google, and services like Google Docs, Gmail and others would no longer accept "old" browsers, like the previous Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 3.0, Chrome 4.0 and Safari 3.0.

This decision was based on the vulnerabilities of one of these browsers (Internet Explorer 6) which allowed the attacks to gmail accounts of human rights defenders in China.

Users using old browsers can still view videos but they show a warning to remind them to update. Until they do, there will be some functions that can not access, YouTube said.

Internet make us smarter, but with less concentration

The possibilities of interconnection among individuals in 2020 could encourage their increased in intelligence and have a greater access to knowledge.

However, among so much information, the depth of reading and the level of concentration could be affected.

A study by the Pew Research Center and developed by Janna Quitney Anderson (Elon University) and Lee Rainie (Pew Internet & Live Project) revealed that of 895 experts, 78% agreed that in ten years the population in the world connected via the Internet may make better decisions and increase their intellect.

However, 18% supported an earlier study by Nicholas Carr called "Google makes us more stupid?", Which indicates that the intense use of the Web alters IQ and concentration of users.

The premise coincides with a study by the University College London, published a few days ago, which stated that the property of "linearity" of the network has made the population, mainly the young, suffer from problems in concentration.

In either of the two positions, the experts supporting the Internet search method will change the cognitive abilities of users.

"We will not have to remember to much information, but we have to think better and have more critical skills," said the study.

Siete jóvenes ganaron el boleto para representar al país en la Feria Internacional de Ciencia e Ingeniería de Intel (ISEF, por sus siglas en inglés).

Con propuestas para extraer más vainilla natural de la planta que la produce, ayudar a niños con discapacidad para que aprendan más fácilmente y reducir el daño que una mosca produce en las reses de la zona norte del país, estos muchachos viajarán a San José de California entre el 10 y el 14 de mayo.

Los jóvenes pertenecen al Colegio Científico de San Carlos y al Colegio Técnico don Bosco.

Microsoft will invest $6,5 millon in Costa Rica this year

Microsoft announced yesterday in Costa Rica will invest $ 6.5 million this year.

The amount will go towards strengthening its sales and distribution channels, said Álvaro Celis, regional director of the high-tech company.

The executive said that the intention is to double the impact of its represented in the country, through advice and support to the 2,700 companies that sell applications to the U.S. firm.

To achieve this goal, Celis announced that the company decided that the 60 employees here are dedicated entirely to the care of the domestic market. So far, 24 people did and the rest of the employees will focus on operations of other nations.

Detail. Microsof Regional Director explained that small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are a focus for improving sales.

Figures provided by Juan Pablo Consuegra, general manager of the company, indicate that 17% of Costa Rican SMEs employ Microsoft technology: just over 6,000 businesses, of approximately 36,000.

The investment of $ 6.5 million will also focus on promoting technologies that the company would be implemented in the country at short notice.

Among them, the so-called cloud computing (cloud computing, referring to the internet).

It is a kind of outsourcing in which firms hire from a third party, services and resources provided and consumed in real time via the Internet.

These include applications such as email and calendar.

Part of this investment from Microsoft also will go to corporate responsibility programs, particularly those that are targeted at schools and centers for people with disabilities, the two executives added.

On of Latin America's largest snack food and tortilla manufacturing companies, Gruma (manufacturers of Mission Tortillas in the United States), wanted more visibility and control of the retail sales process. They mandated their major distributors in Costa Rica implement a business intelligence and mobile sales force automation solution.

Two of their largest distributors in San Jose, Costa Rica's capital and a major metropolitan area, stepped up to the plate and led the way for the company's 8 distributors nationwide.

Gruma's largest distributor, Joma S.A., for example, was making daily deliveries to 5,000 grocery stores, supermarkets such as Wal-Mart, convenience stores, restaurants and fast food places such as Burger King and Taco Bell, through a network of 40 route drivers. Each one of the route drivers was an independently owned micro-business that delivered food in different areas of the city or in the surrounding areas.

Gruma's distributors had about a 90% market share in Costa Rica, but smaller suppliers were keeping them from growing, and some were making inroads into their market. Additionally, in order to keep growing profit margins had to improve, and management at these companies had run out of creative ways to improve profitability.

Respond to Customer Needs and Gather Data with Mobile Technology

Joma S.A., and fellow San Jose distributor Oro Blanco, realized the only way to increase sales and profitability, as well as to provide the information Gruma needed, was to have tighter control over the relationship with their own customers (the stores and restaurants) via the use of technology.

This required daily information at the point of sale such as returns, sales, performance of individual brands, promotional displays, stores and route drivers, and it also required on the spot invoicing, increasing cash-flow due to faster collections, and freeing up resources at company headquarters.

The companies did an extensive search for the right company to implement this solution and found IE Soft. Due to IE Soft's knowledge of the food industry, it's traceability experience, flexibility, SOA and agile expperience, they were the ideal technology partner.

IE Soft built a mobile sales force system that enabled the companies to issue their route-drivers iPaq 256 pocket computers along with Zebra MZ 320 mobile printing devices. This system allowed route drivers to:

· Check which list of clients to visit that day, instead of manually printing out a list.

· Record inventory at clients' location as well as expired product for returns, allowing management to make strategic decisions on product placement on a store-by-store basis.

· Generate invoices on-the-spot, eliminating the need for headquarters personnel to create and send invoices.

· Summary of sales, returns, visits, and performance vs. quota, providing route drivers essential information on job performance.

Management Dashboards to Improve Management Insight into the Business

Route drivers returned to the warehouse by 2pm, at which time all the data such as invoices issued, products returned, customers visited and other important data points was synchronized with the companies' management systems and immediately fed into a management dashboard for use by company executives.

The dashboards gave executives at the distribution companies a daily snapshot of their business, starting at 3pm, 1 hour after the last route driver returned.

Managers were able to:

1. Set objectives.

The system allowed management to set yearly, monthly and daily goals and measure daily monthly and yearly performance against these goals.

2. Analyze sales performance.

The management dashboards gave the companies insights into as many details as possible regarding performance, such as sales per route driver, sales per brand, sales per customer, performance of particular promotions or point-of-purchase displays, and performance vs. the competition.

3. Data across the supply chain

The systems build by IE Soft allowed the distributors to see exactly what was going on at the point-of-purchase: what stores, restaurants, or snack bars received less frequent visits, which ones only ordered one item, performance of point-of-purchase displays, and performance vis-a-vis the competition.

The insights gained allowed managers to increase control over aspects of their business they previously had no control over, by allowing them to make daily decisions such as what customers individual route drivers needed to visit more frequently, how to increase sales of different brands, and how to improve point-of-purchase promotions.

Additionally, they were able to share this data with Gruma, enabling them to utilize the data for further product development and product marketing.

The system was eventually implemented at all 8 of Gruma's distributors in Costa Rica.

Sistema de Facturación Movil

Hemos desarrollado un sistema a la medida de facturación móvil para pequeñas distribuidoras de productos. Este sistema ha sido desarrollado e implementado en las distribuidoras de tortillas del Grupo Gruma (DEMASA).

El objetivo de dicho sistema es que la palm pueda conectarse por medio de WiFi a la red interna de cada distribuidora y extraer la información de pedidos, precios, lista de clientes y productos que debe llevarse cada vendedor para atender su ruta.

Al final de la jornada de cada vendedor, el mismo debe sincronizar las facturas para poder generarle la liquidación correspondiente y poder generar las estadísticas de consumo de los productos.

El sistema está instalado en una palm HP ipaq 216 y utiliza una impresora Zebra Cameo 3.

Nuevo sistema Trazabilidad para Centros de Acopio

Este año hemos implementado el sistema de Trazabilidad para Centros de Acopio con la ayuda de Aprocam, empresa dedicada a la exportación de mora hacia Estado Unidos. El sistema funciona de la siguiente manera. Existen N cantidad de productores de Mora los cuales entrega sus productos a diferente Centros de Acopio en el país. Estos Centros de Acopio entregan los productos recibidos por los productores y los empacan en cajitas (tal y como uno las vez en los supermercados) a APROCAM. APROCAM luego verifica la calidad y decide cuales son de exportación y cuales de mercado nacional.

El sistema estará instalado en cada Centro de Acopio (7), el cual registrará el ingreso de la información tanto de él mismo como de los productores y en APROCAM. En este último es donde se generan los despachos y las etiquetas con códigos de barras que van pegadas en cada cajita de mora de exportación. A su vez, se modificó para que el sistema genere los archivos de pago que se deben hacer tanto a los Centros de Acopio, como a los productores mediante el sistema del Banco Nacional de Costa Rica.
